After-Concert Blog – part 1

(Our thoughts  & feelings following on from  the Concert in October – in five, easily digested chunks.)

We invited our cast of eight performers along to West Studios at Chesterfield College for rehearsals. It was ideal for what we needed although I couldn’t get the Wi-Fi working on my mac. We had a few community choir members turn up on the Friday and Harry Style (our Musical Director) worked well with them and they seemed to enjoy taking part. Tom (from Brampton Community Band) came and took photos (creating a little photo studio on site).
The actors stayed in various houses around Chesterfield that we were fortunate enough to have ‘loaned’ to us for the few days the cast were in town. Heating was a problem in one, but I took an Oil Heater to help out and things seemed fine (no-one complained-lucky it wasn’t the height of winter)
2 musicians arrived late at night but were no trouble. The house loaned to us was a ‘God-send’, perfect for the 5 who stayed there, and we were so grateful to the “donors.” Sue and Peter had done a fantastic job. Where had all the furniture and goodies come from?

The resulting concert in the largest church in Derbyshire was a full church (considering covid) and we had hugely positive feedback.

All were impressed with the standard of performances and Harriet’s Derbyshire accent was deemed accurate too! A high bar has been set considering only 2 days of rehearsals.

Harry’s musical direction was superb. He was extremely well prepared and great with the choristers too arranging for the band members and even staying up late for their arrivals in Chesterfield.
